What you are buying is not luxury. It is control: the departure time, the stop lengths, and whether today is a waterfall day or a Bolafjall day. Travellers here describe being taken to viewpoints they would never have found and being helped up the path at the fall by name.
The superjeep at $890 divides to $223 a head, which is under the cheapest coach fare in the Westfjords. Nobody expects a four-figure listing to be the cheap option, and at a party of four one of them is.
Bolungarvík, Flateyri, Þingeyri and Súðavík are all within an hour, and no scheduled trip here links them. Two of these private days do.
The 638-metre platform that opened in 2022 sits on a road typically open only mid-June to mid-September. No timetabled coach can promise it; a driver who checked this morning can.
The path at the waterfall is loose rock. On a coach, ninety minutes is ninety minutes. On a private day, one traveller's mother with a knee injury was walked up and down it personally.
